If you ned latest version of thunderbird just follow instaructions
For Thunderbird 2.xx:
1. Take and install MozBuild system from mozilla.org
2. Download sources from mozilla.org
3. Unpack sources (mozilla dir in archive) to your c:\mozilla-build\msys directory
